PROJECT 01
Supporting the orphanage
The Foundation’s first project was to support an orphanage for child victims of sexual violence.

Through Strathmore University, the Foundation became aware of a small orphanage on the outskirts of Nairobi running entirely on the goodwill of a primary school teacher who had decided to take in children from the streets of the capital who had endured acts of sexual violence. Their needs were obvious, the living conditions precarious.
The orphanage is home to children from one year of age up to the age of majority. The Foundation contributed needed items as indicated by orphanage staff, such as laundry detergents and shoe-polishing materials, the latter of which the older children used on Sundays when they went out to look for donations in exchange for polishing shoes outside the local churches.
We did not forget, however, that these children also had the right to have toys and games with which to play, so they could grow up happy, within the constraints of their situation.
Therefore, we made regular deliveries of toys, which also meant spending a wonderful day of play with them.
The children’s joy on those occasions was the greatest reward the Foundation could have ever received and it was what drove us to continue to pursue our mission, even though we ourselves were working with few resources.
This was an unforgettable project and one we hope to resume.
